Mt. Lover is a low-growing evergreen shrub that reaches 1 1/2-3' tall. Tiny reddish/purple flowers grow in clusters and are followed by small berrylike capsules. It grows in gravelly well-drained, shallow clay and silt loam soils and can tolerate sun but prefers light to deep shade with a moist atmosphere. Also called Oregon Boxwood, it is browsed by deer, elk, moose, mountain sheep and grouse.
