Wax currant, aka squaw currant, is a compact but erect, many-branched, fragrant shrub that grows to about 3' tall. Will tolerate drought and other harsh growing conditions. Blooms white or pink in early summer followed by red berries that are edible. It is closely related to the Gooseberry, which has thorns - Wax Currant does not.
