This low-maintenance wetland plant grows 3-5' in ideal conditions.  Showy individual seed head tufts turn coppery in the lat summer and persist in to winter.  Found naturally in wet meadows and swamps. Woolgrass is an important food source for water fowl.  It does not spread via rhizomes, but by seed.  Native Americans used the fibers for weaving mats and bags and the fluffy seed heads were used to stuff pillows.
